What is Flock really selling?
The short version: TREX LABS digs past Flock's crime-fighting pitch to ask what the company is actually monetizing: data, access, and a growing surveillance network.
Our Take
TREX LABS asks the question we keep coming back to at DeFlock: Flock Safety isn't really in the business of selling cameras. It's in the business of selling access — to plate reads, location histories, and a searchable record of where you've driven, sold back to police departments as a subscription. The hardware is just the collection point for a much bigger data product.
That distinction matters because it changes how you should think about these poles popping up on your street. This isn't a one-off purchase by your local PD; it's a recurring revenue relationship where more cameras, more networked agencies, and more data sharing all make the product more valuable to Flock's bottom line. The incentives point toward expansion, not restraint, regardless of what any single department promises about oversight.
Credit to TREX LABS for framing it in plain business terms instead of just repeating the marketing copy. If you want to see how far that network already reaches near you, check our camera map, and if you're ready to push back on a deployment in your town, our take-action page has the tools to get started.
