G**gle Has a Page to Delete Everything. #GooglePrivacy #MyActivity #DeleteYourData

Mading Thok · 6 months ago

The short version: Mading Thok's quick Google data-deletion tip is a good two-minute habit, but it won't touch the license plate surveillance net that logs your movements regardless of your search history.

Our Take

Credit where it's due: Mading Thok's tip is solid and takes two minutes. Clearing out MyActivity and setting auto-delete is a smart baseline move for anyone trying to shrink their digital footprint. We'd encourage everyone watching to actually do it instead of just liking the video.

But here's the catch that videos like this rarely mention: deleting your Google searches does nothing about the cameras bolted to poles on your street corner. Flock Safety and similar ALPR networks aren't run by an ad company you can opt out of with a settings page — they're run by your local police department, often with no retention limits, no deletion button, and no meaningful consent. Your car's movements get logged and stored whether or not you ever searched for anything incriminating on Google.

Digital hygiene and physical surveillance awareness have to go hand in hand now. If you cleared your Google activity today, good — now go check our camera map to see what's tracking you on the roads you actually drive, and hit take action to find out how to push back on ALPR deployment in your town.
