What's the REAL Reason for the Sudden Rise in Flock Cameras?

BlazeTV · 2 months ago

The short version: A BlazeTV segment asks why Flock cameras are multiplying nationwide, and the honest answer is money, convenience, and zero oversight.

Our Take

Pat Gray's question is the right one, even if cable news rarely sticks around for the full answer. The "sudden rise" in Flock Safety cameras isn't a mystery or a conspiracy — it's a business model. Flock sells police departments a subscription service, cities sign multi-year contracts without public debate, and suddenly every intersection in town has a camera logging your plate, your location, and your travel patterns, timestamped and searchable. No warrant required, no judge involved, and in many towns, no city council vote that residents actually noticed before the poles went up.

What makes this bigger than a local budget story is the network effect. Flock's pitch to departments is interoperability — your local cameras can be searched by cops two states away, no questions asked about why. That's not a crime-fighting tool anymore, that's the backbone of a de facto national tracking system built by a private company and operated with almost no statutory guardrails. When BlazeTV asks "why now," part of the answer is that nobody stopped it when it was easy to stop — the growth curve is what you get when a surveillance product scales faster than public awareness does.

We built our camera map precisely because most people have no idea how many of these cameras already watch their daily commute. If this video got you asking questions, don't stop at the segment — check your own neighborhood and see what's already in place, then head to our take-action page to push back before the next contract renewal sails through another council meeting unopposed.
