Flock Founder On Deflock
The short version: A Flock Safety founder weighing in on DeFlock says a lot about who transparency threatens — and why community-sourced camera maps matter more than ever.
Our Take
When the man who built the company puts his name near the word "DeFlock," you know the mapping project is landing hits. Credit to Respectsyoutech for getting a Flock Safety founder on record reacting to a volunteer-run transparency effort instead of a polished corporate blog post. That's a different animal than a PR statement, and it's worth watching for tone alone — how a company founder talks about the people documenting his cameras tells you a lot about whether he sees this as a public safety tool or a surveillance product that doesn't like being tracked itself.
Here's the thing that doesn't change no matter what gets said in the video: DeFlock exists because Flock Safety and departments deploying its cameras haven't given the public a real, searchable accounting of where ALPRs are, who has access to the data, and how long it's retained. A crowdsourced map isn't an attack, it's a stopgap for accountability that should've come from the vendor or your city council in the first place. If a founder is uncomfortable with the public doing that work, that discomfort is the story.
We'd rather you see the data than take anyone's word for it, ours included. Check our map to see what's been logged near you, and if you want to push back on a deployment in your town, our take-action page has the steps to actually do it.
