Cops Were Caught Using THESE CAMERAS to STALK Women 😳

Opinionated Diva · 2 months ago

The short version: Opinionated Diva highlights reports of officers abusing Flock ALPR access to track women, underscoring how little oversight guards this warrantless surveillance network.

Our Take

Credit to Opinionated Diva for putting a spotlight on something we've been tracking for a while: when you build a nationwide, warrantless license-plate tracking network and hand the keys to thousands of individual officers, misuse isn't a hypothetical, it's a pattern. Cases of cops running plates on ex-partners or people they're personally interested in keep surfacing because the system is built for speed and access, not accountability. Audit logs exist, but they're only reviewed after someone complains β€” and by then the damage to a person's safety and trust is already done.

This is the core problem with Flock's pitch to cities: it sells convenience and "public safety" while quietly normalizing a tool that logs everyone's movements, guilty or not, searchable by anyone with a login and a flimsy justification. No warrant, no independent audit requirement, no meaningful consequence structure. When the same infrastructure meant to catch stolen cars can just as easily be turned into a stalking tool, that's not a bug being patched β€” it's the design working exactly as permissively as it was built.

If your city has these cameras, you deserve to know it, and you deserve a say in whether that contract gets renewed. Check our map to see what's already deployed near you, and use our take-action resources to push your council for real oversight before the next abuse case makes headlines.
