Dallas leaders continue debate over Flock cameras
The short version: Dallas City Council hears directly from a Flock Safety rep as officials keep haggling over whether ALPR cameras belong on city streets.
Our Take
Credit to FOX 4's Lori Brown for keeping a camera on this story as Dallas leaders sit down with Flock Safety's own sales team to hash out the future of ALPR surveillance in the city. It's telling that the company is showing up in person to make its pitch directly to council members — that's usually a sign public pushback is working and officials are starting to ask harder questions than "how many plates can it scan."
What tends to get lost in these council-chamber debates is that the vendor's representative is not a neutral party. Flock profits from every new camera contract, and their presentations rarely dwell on mission creep, data sharing with ICE and out-of-state agencies, or the breach history that's dogged the company. Dallas residents deserve a debate grounded in independent facts, not a product demo dressed up as public safety policy.
