Jackson TN Police Arrest a Man for Theft and Fraud in Just 30 Minutes Thanks to Flock Safety

Flock · 5 years ago

The short version: Flock's own promo clip touts a 30-minute Jackson, TN arrest, but a single company-produced success story tells us nothing about the thousands of scans on innocent drivers.

Our Take

This clip, credited to Flock Safety and originally aired on WBBJ, is a company marketing reel dressed up as local news. That's worth noting up front: Flock produces and distributes these feel-good arrest stories because they sell more cameras to more police departments. A fast collar is a great headline, but it's not an audit, and it's not evidence that the underlying dragnet is proportionate, accurate, or legal.

What these videos never show is the other side of the ledger: how many plates were scanned and logged to make that one arrest possible, how long that data sits in a database, who else can query it, and how often these systems misfire on innocent people with similar plates or rental cars. One tidy success story doesn't offset a network that quietly tracks everyone's daily movements, regardless of suspicion.

If you want to know whether Jackson, TN — or your own town — is wired up with this kind of surveillance, check our camera map, and if you'd rather your city not run on PR clips instead of public oversight, see what you can do at take action.
