Go Flock Yourself
The short version: Dale and David's 'Go Flock Yourself' breaks down Flock Safety cameras in plain terms, and it's a solid on-ramp for anyone just waking up to ALPR surveillance.
Our Take
Credit where it's due: Dale and David over at Old Friends New Problems are doing the unglamorous work of explaining Flock Safety cameras to people who've never thought twice about that black box on a pole at the edge of their subdivision. That's exactly the kind of grassroots awareness this fight needs, because Flock's whole business model depends on nobody asking questions until the network is already built out across their town.
What makes ALPR networks different from the speed cameras your parents worried about is scale and memory. A single camera clocking your plate isn't the issue — it's thousands of cameras stitched together into a searchable log of everywhere you've driven, shared across departments and sometimes states, with little independent oversight on how long it's kept or who gets to query it. Videos like this one matter because most of these systems get approved at a city council meeting nobody attended, and by the time residents notice the cameras, the contract's already signed.
If this video has you looking around your own neighborhood differently, that's the point. Check our map to see what's already been installed near you, and if you want to push back before the next contract renewal, our take-action page walks through what to say and who to say it to.
