The 'safety vs. privacy' framing is common, but it undersells what's at stake. Flock's pitch is always about solving crime after the fact; what rarely gets discussed is that these systems create a permanent movement record of every driver, innocent or not, searchable by any agency with network access — and increasingly, that access sprawls far beyond the town that installed the cameras. Once a city says yes, reversing course gets much harder, because the data-sharing agreements and vendor contracts outlive whoever approved them.
