KEYGON LPR System | Automatic License Plate Recognition & Barrier Gate Access

Keygon Alice · 3 months ago

The short version: Keygon's demo video sells plate-reading gate access as convenience, but it's another node in the growing web of cameras logging where we drive.

Our Take

Keygon Alice's walkthrough of the KEYGON LPR barrier gate system is a straightforward product demo — point a camera at a lane, read the plate, lift the gate. No sirens, no flashing lights, just "seamless access." That's exactly why this kind of hardware deserves a second look. Automated plate readers sold for parking garages, gated communities, and corporate campuses are built on the same core tech as the police and Flock-style surveillance networks we track every day. The pitch is always convenience and security; the byproduct is always a permanent record of who came and went, and when.

What makes these "private" LPR deployments worth watching is how quietly they multiply. A property manager installs one for access control, never imagining it as part of a surveillance dragnet — but the data doesn't know the difference between a corporate garage and a police network, and plenty of these systems can be networked, shared, or subpoenaed. Each new camera, however mundane the sales pitch, adds another eye to a landscape that already has too many unaccountable ones watching the road.

We're not accusing Keygon of bad intent — they're building access control, not a spy network. But every plate-reading camera, public or private, is a reminder of how normalized this technology has become. Check our camera map to see what's already watching your neighborhood, and visit take-action if you want to push back on unchecked plate surveillance where you live.
