This Ain't Your Average Camera-Axon Surveillance Cameras Safer Than The Flock?

R.C Entertainment · 3 weeks ago

The short version: R.C Entertainment asks if Axon's cameras beat Flock on privacy, but swapping one ALPR vendor for another doesn't fix the underlying mass-surveillance problem.

Our Take

Credit to R.C Entertainment for putting Axon's street cameras next to Flock Safety's and asking the question more people should be asking: is one of these actually better for privacy, or are we just picking a different logo to watch us? It's a fair comparison to make, since Axon is aggressively expanding into the same automated license plate reader space that made Flock a household name in policing circles.

But "safer than Flock" is a low bar, not a destination. Axon built its brand on body cameras and tasers, and now it's selling networked cameras and AI-assisted surveillance tools to the same police departments already running Flock's grid. Whether the box says Axon or Flock, the core issue doesn't change: cameras logging every car that passes, timestamped and searchable, often with little public oversight over who can query that data or why. A "better" vendor with the same lack of warrant requirements and retention limits is still a surveillance expansion.

If you want to see what's actually deployed near you, check our camera map, and if you're ready to push back on these systems regardless of brand, our take-action page has concrete steps for getting answers from local officials.
