Has your plate been run through a Flock camera system?

KARE 11 · 2 months ago

The short version: KARE 11 highlights a new tool letting drivers check if Flock cameras have searched their plate, exposing just how opaque this surveillance network really is.

Our Take

Credit to KARE 11 for flagging something most drivers never think to ask: who's been running my plate, and why? That a third-party tool even needs to exist to answer this basic question says everything about how little transparency Flock Safety and its police partners have offered the public on their own.

Being able to check whether your plate was searched is a start, but it's a band-aid, not a fix. It still puts the burden on citizens to go digging for answers about a system that was deployed around them without a vote, a hearing, or in many cases even a public announcement. The real issue isn't just whether you can check — it's that this infrastructure exists at all, silently logging the movements of everyone who drives past, regardless of suspicion.

If you want to see how far this network has spread in your own town, check our camera map, and if you're ready to push back, our take-action page has tools to get started.
