Newly Installed Keygon License Plate Recognition System | Smart Vehicle Access Control

Keygon Alice · 4 months ago

The short version: A vendor demo from Keygon Alice shows an LPR gate-access system, a reminder that plate surveillance isn't just Flock — it's spreading through private gates and parking lots too.

Our Take

This clip from Keygon Alice is a manufacturer demo, not an independent review, so take the polished framing with a grain of salt. It shows a freshly installed license plate recognition unit controlling who gets waved through a gate — the kind of "smart access control" pitch that's becoming standard at apartment complexes, HOAs, and parking lots across the country.

What's worth noting is how normalized this is becoming. Every one of these installs is another camera capturing plate, time, and location data, often with little public disclosure about who owns the footage, how long it's kept, or whether it ever gets shared with police or data brokers. Access-control LPR is marketed as a convenience feature, but the underlying tech is identical to the networked ALPR systems we track — and plenty of these private systems quietly feed into larger surveillance pipelines.

We can't verify Keygon's specific data practices from a promo video, and we won't speculate beyond what's shown. But it's exactly why we keep building out our camera map — so residents know when a gate camera is just a gate camera, and when it's part of something much bigger.
