Her hand was up 58 seconds at Marinette's Flock vote. He called on someone else.

The short version: Marinette's Common Council voted 9-0 to kill its Flock Safety contract, a win Northwoods Progressive captured in a video that also shows the messy reality of public comment at these meetings.

Our Take

A 9-0 vote to cancel a Flock Safety contract is the kind of result we like to see — unanimous, no hedging, no "pilot program" nonsense. Credit to Northwoods Progressive for getting cameras in the room and documenting Marinette's Common Council doing the right thing on September 17.

But the detail in the title is the part worth sitting with. A resident's hand up for 58 seconds, waiting to be recognized, while the chair calls on someone else — that's not a conspiracy, it's just how local government friction looks in real time. Public bodies control the mic, and who gets heard often shapes what gets decided. Marinette got to the right outcome anyway, but plenty of towns don't, because the loudest objections never make it into the record.

That's why documenting these votes matters as much as winning them. Every canceled contract is proof that ALPR networks aren't inevitable — they're policy choices made by people who can be out-argued, out-organized, or simply out-voted. If Flock is active or proposed near you, check our camera map and use our take-action guide to get your own hand up — and keep it up until someone calls on you.
