There were 11 Extra Eyes On You the whole Time!

Did You Miss This? · 2 days ago

The short version: A St. Lucie County, Florida audit meant to remove 52 approved Flock cameras instead turned up 11 unauthorized units nobody signed off on.

Our Take

Credit to the channel Did You Miss This? for catching this one: St. Lucie County set out to pull 52 "approved" license plate readers and stumbled onto 11 more that apparently never went through the same approval process. That's not a rounding error — that's a fifth of the network operating outside whatever oversight the county thought it had in place.

This is the pattern we keep seeing nationwide. Flock Safety cameras get installed under vague "public safety" justifications, counts drift upward without new votes or public notice, and nobody in local government can say for certain how many cameras are watching, who approved them, or who's auditing the data they collect. When even the officials responsible for sign-off can't keep an accurate tally, residents have zero chance of knowing who's tracking their daily movements.

If you want to see what's been deployed near you, check our camera map and start asking your own county the same question St. Lucie had to ask itself: how many of these are actually authorized? If the answer is murky, that's your opening — bring it to a public meeting using our take-action resources.
