Roseville Mayor & City Council Candidate Forum - 9-24-26

LWV Roseville Area · 6 days ago

The short version: A nonpartisan League of Women Voters forum gives Roseville voters a rare chance to hear mayoral and council candidates on record before November — including, we hope, on ALPR surveillance.

Our Take

Credit where it's due: the League of Women Voters of Roseville Area did what so few local outlets bother to do anymore — they put candidates for mayor and city council in a room together and let voters hear them answer questions in their own words. That's the kind of unglamorous civic infrastructure that actually matters, especially in a year when decisions about Flock Safety cameras and ALPR contracts are made by exactly these kinds of local bodies, usually with little public debate and even less press coverage.

We haven't combed every minute of this forum for ALPR talk, and we won't pretend otherwise. But this is precisely the moment to find out where Roseville's next mayor and council stand on automated surveillance before they're sworn in and the vendor contracts are already signed. Once a city council approves a Flock deployment, reversing it is a much bigger fight than asking a candidate a pointed question in October.

If you're in Roseville, watch this forum, then go further: check our map to see what's already been deployed near you, and use our action guide to push whoever wins this race to commit to transparency, data retention limits, and public oversight before the next contract renewal comes up for a vote.
