The same core pitch that Flock Safety and its competitors make to American police departments — instant vehicle identification, searchable databases, 'public safety' framing — gets made to governments everywhere, often with far fewer guardrails than we have here in the States, which honestly isn't saying much.

What strikes us watching a video like this is how normalized the technology has become internationally. When ALPR is marketed as standard infrastructure for an entire country, it's easier to see the endgame that piecemeal deployment in the US is quietly building toward: a nationwide, always-on grid of camera nodes logging where every car goes, cross-referenced and stored indefinitely. The UAE isn't exactly a model for civil liberties, and that's precisely the point — this is the surveillance architecture being normalized worldwide, and American cities are buying into a domestic version of it one HOA and city council vote at a time.
