What we know about the Wood Haven Technology Park deal

WSLS 10 · 2 weeks ago

The short version: WSLS 10 reports a mystery firm, Clearview Dynamics LLC, is buying into Virginia's Wood Haven Technology Park, with officials staying tight-lipped on what's actually going up.

Our Take

Credit to WSLS 10 News in Roanoke for digging into this one. A brand-new LLC with zero public track record is landing a deal in a regional tech park, and the authority overseeing it says it's 'too early' to say what's being built. That's the kind of non-answer that should make any resident's ears perk up, especially when the name on the paperwork — Clearview — echoes some of the more notorious players in the surveillance-tech world.

We're not going to pretend we know what Clearview Dynamics LLC is planning. Nobody outside the deal seems to, and that's exactly the problem. Shell companies formed the same year they show up buying land, paired with officials who won't commit to details, is a pattern we see again and again when data centers, server farms, or surveillance infrastructure move into a community before anyone's had a chance to ask questions, let alone vote on it.

Communities deserve to know what's moving in before the concrete's poured, not after. If you want to see what kind of camera and tracking infrastructure is already active near you, check our map, and if Wood Haven turns out to be more than just an empty warehouse, our take-action page has tools for pushing local officials toward actual transparency.
