Will South Lyon get rid of their Flock cameras?

WWJNewsradio950 flags South Lyon as the newest town to publicly wrestle with its Flock Safety contract, and that alone is worth noting. These debates rarely happen unless residents or council members start asking who actually sees the data these cameras collect, how long it's stored, and whether any of it has ever been shared with outside agencies. The fact that the question is even on the table is a sign that the 'set it and forget it' era of ALPR rollouts is ending.

South Lyon joins a growing list of communities discovering that a vendor pitch about catching stolen cars doesn't always match the reality of a network that logs every plate, every driver, every day, whether or not they're suspected of anything. Once that infrastructure exists, it rarely stays limited to its original purpose, and reversing course is a lot harder than approving it in the first place.
