Flock Cameras
The short version: Stand Up For Idaho's Brian McKeller sounds the alarm on Flock cameras, and we're glad local voices outside the usual coastal hubs are paying attention.
Our Take
Credit to Stand Up For Idaho for putting Flock Safety surveillance on the radar of folks who might assume this is a big-city problem. It isn't. ALPR networks have crept into small towns and rural counties across the country, often approved with little public debate and even less scrutiny of how the data gets stored, shared, or hunted through by agencies with no warrant in hand.
Brian McKeller's line — "the surveillance state is here, what do we do next?" — is the right question, and it's one we think more Idahoans and Americans generally need to be asking their city councils before the cameras go up, not after. Once a Flock network is live, reversing it is a much harder political fight than stopping it at the procurement stage.
If you want to see whether these cameras have already landed near you, check our map, and if you're ready to push back at a council meeting or public comment period, our take-action page has concrete steps to get started.
