KEYGON License Plate Recognition System | Smart Parking & Automatic Vehicle Access Solution

Keygon Alice · 2 months ago

The short version: A vendor demo from Keygon Alice shows off plate-reading gate access tech, a reminder that ALPR cameras are creeping into everyday parking lots, not just highways.

Our Take

This one's a manufacturer's demo reel, not an investigative piece, but it's worth watching anyway. Keygon Alice shows off how quickly its camera reads a plate and swings open a gate, marketed purely as convenience: no more fumbling for a key fob or waiting on an attendant. That's the pitch you'll hear from every ALPR vendor, whether it's Flock Safety wiring up a neighborhood or a parking operator automating a garage.

What gets lost in these slick demo videos is that every "frictionless" entry is also a logged entry. Once a plate-reading camera is installed for parking convenience, there's nothing stopping that same hardware, or the database behind it, from being repurposed for tracking, shared with police, or sold to data brokers. Private lots, apartment complexes, and HOAs are exactly the kind of low-scrutiny spaces where ALPR networks expand quietest, because nobody's asking who else gets access to the read history.

We track these systems because the convenience narrative is how mass surveillance infrastructure gets normalized one gate arm at a time. Check our camera map to see what's already deployed near you, and if you want to push back on a system going in at your building or city, our take-action page has concrete steps.
