Show up, be heard, stop the Flock!

Pressure Tested with Josh Thifault · 4 weeks ago

The short version: Josh Thifault's latest Pressure Tested video is a rallying cry: local meetings are where Flock contracts get decided, so showing up matters.

Our Take

Josh Thifault's message in this Pressure Tested upload is blunt and correct: the fight over ALPR surveillance isn't won or lost on Twitter, it's won or lost in city council chambers, county commission meetings, and police oversight hearings where almost nobody from the public bothers to show up. Flock Safety's sales pitch works best in an empty room. A handful of residents asking pointed questions about retention periods, data sharing agreements, and vendor contracts can completely change the trajectory of a vote.

We say this constantly because it's true: elected officials rarely hear pushback on these systems until it's too late. By the time a network of cameras is logging every plate that passes through town, the contract is signed, the budget is allocated, and reversing course becomes a much heavier lift. Thifault's call to "show up, be heard" is a reminder that the window to stop a Flock deployment is usually before the ribbon-cutting, not after.
