Flock Camera Alerts Officer about Woman with Unexpected Warrant

BodyCam Network USA · 2 days ago

The short version: A bodycam clip of an Ankeny officer getting a Flock warrant hit is being used as a feel-good ad, but it skips the dragnet that made the hit possible.

Our Take

Credit to BodyCam Network USA for surfacing this clip, because it's exactly the kind of footage Flock Safety loves to see circulate: officer gets an alert, officer makes an arrest, mission accomplished. It's a clean, satisfying three-minute story. What it leaves out is everything that happened before that beep — thousands of other plates read, logged, and stored that night, belonging to people who had done nothing wrong and had no idea their movements were being captured at all.

That's the trick with these "win" videos. One warrant hit gets held up as proof the system works, while the dragnet surveillance required to produce that single hit goes unmentioned. Flock cameras don't target wanted people — they scan everyone, indiscriminately, and sort out the hits after the fact. The warrant in this case is real, but so is the permanent record created for every driver who passed that same reader with a clean record and no idea they were being filed away.
