These flock cameras are on point! #flock #deflock #emu #farmlife
The short version: MOA Farms' playful emu-farm clip riffs on the "Flock" name, but the real Flock Safety camera network is no joke for privacy.
Our Take
Credit where it's due: MOA Farms' quick farm-life clip is a fun bit of internet wordplay, poking at the overlap between a literal flock of birds and the ever-expanding Flock Safety camera network. It's the kind of harmless irony that spreads fast on social media, and it's a reminder of just how deeply "Flock" has embedded itself into everyday vocabulary — for better or worse.
But the joke only lands because the real thing is everywhere. Flock Safety's automated license plate readers have been quietly installed by police departments, HOAs, and private developments across the country, building a nationwide surveillance web that tracks ordinary people's movements without a warrant or, often, without residents even knowing the cameras are there. What starts as a meme about emus and plate readers is really a window into how normalized this surveillance has become — so normalized that it's fodder for lighthearted content instead of scrutiny.
That's exactly why we built DeFlock The USA. If you want to see how close these cameras are to your own neighborhood, check our map, and if you're ready to push back on unchecked ALPR deployment in your town, our take-action page has concrete steps to get started.
