Sharks feed on stingray close to Hilton Head Island shore
The short version: A WJCL News clip shows sharks feeding on a stingray off Hilton Head — wildlife footage with no connection to ALPR surveillance, our usual beat.
Our Take
This one's a swing and a miss for our inbox. WJCL News out of Savannah/Hilton Head caught some dramatic shark-versus-stingray action just offshore, and it's a solid piece of local wildlife journalism — but it has nothing to do with license plate readers, Flock Safety, or the surveillance state we track here at DeFlock The USA.
We get sent a lot of video, and every so often something lands in the queue that's just... nature being nature. Credit to WJCL's crew for the footage, no notes on the reporting. We just don't have a surveillance angle to offer on a feeding frenzy in the Atlantic.
If you came here expecting commentary on camera networks and got sharks instead, stick around. Check out our live map of ALPR cameras to see what's actually watching your street, and if you want to push back on surveillance creep in your own town, our take-action page has real steps you can take this week.
