FlockYou Flock Camera Detector | WiFi ALPR Awareness Tool with Audio Chirp Alerts
The short version: STS Technologies' FlockYou gadget passively sniffs for Flock camera WiFi signatures and chirps a warning, turning ALPR detection into a $ off-the-shelf gadget.
Our Take
STS Technologies LLC's FlockYou is a neat piece of grassroots counter-surveillance engineering: a small ESP32-based device that passively listens for the wireless signatures Flock Safety cameras broadcast, then chirps when one's nearby. No account, no subscription, no data sent anywhere but to your own ears. That's a refreshing departure from most "privacy tech" that wants your email and your credit card before it protects you from anything.
The bigger story here isn't the gadget itself, it's what its existence proves: these cameras are common enough, and their networking chatty enough, that hobbyists can build cheap detectors for them. Flock has quietly wired thousands of intersections and neighborhood entrances into a nationwide plate-tracking grid, often with zero public vote. A chirping box that tells you "you just got scanned" is a small act of resistance against a system designed to be invisible.
Don't mistake awareness for opt-out, though. Hearing the chirp doesn't stop your plate from hitting Flock's servers or your local police log. If you want to know what's actually deployed near you, check our camera map, and if you want to push back on city council approvals and public records requests, our take-action page has the tools to do more than just chirp about it.
