AI Detects License Plates in Real Time ππ | YOLO ANPR #Shorts #shorts
The short version: A quick coder demo of YOLO-based license plate detection shows just how cheap and easy it's become to build the kind of tech Flock sells to your local police.
Our Take
Muhammad Rizwan Munawar's short clip isn't about Flock Safety specifically, but it's a useful reality check. This is a hobbyist-level computer vision demo β open-source YOLO models spotting plates in traffic footage in real time. It's the same core technology that powers commercial ALPR networks, minus the millions in venture funding and the law enforcement contracts.
That's the part worth sitting with. When a single developer can wire up plate-reading AI as a weekend project, it should end any illusion that this is exotic, hard-to-regulate technology. Flock's actual product isn't the algorithm β it's the nationwide camera network, the data retention, and the law enforcement pipelines built on top of it. The AI is commoditized. The surveillance infrastructure is the business model, and that's the part communities actually get to vote on.
