Our Take
Credit to DeFlockILM for doing the unglamorous but essential work of grassroots privacy advocacy: walking up to strangers on a college campus and asking them what they know about the license plate readers quietly logging their movements. Campus communities are a perfect microcosm of the ALPR problem — students, staff, and visitors funneling in and out of a few chokepoints, all getting scanned and time-stamped whether they know it or not.
What these street-level interviews tend to reveal, over and over, is the same gap we see nationwide: most people have no idea Flock cameras exist near them, who operates them, or how long their location data sits in a database. That knowledge gap is exactly why Flock's rollout has been so frictionless — you can't organize against a system you don't know is watching you. Videos like this one do the quiet work of closing that gap one conversation at a time.
