Credit to WKMG News 6 ClickOrlando for tracking a story a lot of outlets would rather ignore: people are angry enough about Flock Safety cameras that they're taking a crowbar to them. We don't endorse vandalism — it's illegal, it gets people charged, and it doesn't slow down the rollout of these systems one bit since Flock just swaps in a new unit. But the frustration behind it is real and it's spreading county by county in Florida, same as it has in Texas, Colorado, and elsewhere.

These cameras aren't traffic cams. They log every plate that passes, timestamp it, and store the location data in a searchable database that local police, and often other agencies far outside their jurisdiction, can query without a warrant. Central Florida residents are waking up to the fact that a private company now holds a rolling record of where their car has been, and that county commissions approved these contracts with little public debate before the cameras ever went up. Vandalism is what happens when people feel like the normal channels — public comment, city council votes — never actually gave them a say.
