Credit to Jen's Two Cents for catching this exchange on camera, because it's a rare moment where an elected official actually says the quiet part out loud in a public meeting: residents are worried about Big Brother, and the council wants a script to hand them. Mayor Kell Palguta's question was blunt and fair. Flock's representative, Hamza Al Baroudi, answered the way every Flock rep answers everywhere in the country — the system has 'parameters,' there's an 'audit trail,' misuse gets caught after the fact. Notice what's missing: no mention of who actually reviews those logs, how often audits happen, whether the public ever sees the results, or what happens when a cop runs a plate for personal reasons and nobody catches it until a lawsuit forces disclosure.

This is the same reassurance playbook that's been deployed in city council chambers from Arizona to the Carolinas, and it works because most elected officials don't have the technical background to push back on it. An audit trail is not a limit on power, it's a receipt. It tells you who looked, not whether they should have. Meanwhile the cameras keep multiplying, the data keeps flowing to a network far bigger than any single town's police department can see, and the 'fine line' the mayor mentioned keeps getting redrawn in the company's favor one city council meeting at a time.
