Meet DeFlockers #fyp #deflock #flock #unconstitutional #noprivacy

The short version: A viral FYP clip from FartGuys puts a comedic spotlight on "DeFlockers," the grassroots pushback against Flock Safety's ALPR network springing up nationwide.

Our Take

Credit where it's due: FartGuys found a way to make license plate surveillance resistance land on the For You Page, and that matters more than it might seem. Most Americans have never heard the word "ALPR," let alone know their daily commute is being logged by a private company's camera network and shared with police departments far outside their town. A meme-length video that gets people typing "what's a DeFlocker" into the search bar is doing real awareness work, even if it never cites a single footnote.

The term itself points to something bigger than a joke format. "DeFlocker" has become shorthand for ordinary people who are mapping camera locations, filing public records requests, showing up to city council meetings, and in some cases physically removing or disabling units they consider installed without proper authorization. That's a citizen response to a surveillance system that expanded into thousands of communities with little public debate about retention windows, audit logs, or who gets access to the data.

We can't verify what claims, if any, the video makes beyond its title, so we're not going to pretend we watched a documentary. What we can do is point you toward the real record: check our camera map to see what's actually deployed near you, and if you want to do more than laugh at a short clip, our take-action page has concrete steps for pushing back through official channels.
