HD CCTV Cameras | IP Cameras | No plate reader camera |PTZ | Security Systems #cctvsecuritycamera
The short version: A vendor spot for Sky Secure's HD/PTZ camera lineup incidentally highlights how different ordinary CCTV is from networked plate-reader surveillance.
Our Take
This one's a product reel, not a policy piece — Sky Secure is pitching HD, IP, WiFi, and PTZ cameras for home and business security, and credit to the channel for being upfront that these are standard CCTV units, not plate readers. That distinction is worth sitting with for a second, because it's exactly the line a lot of people blur when they hear "camera" and assume it means the same thing as a Flock Safety ALPR pole.
A homeowner's doorbell cam or a shop's PTZ unit records footage the owner controls, stores, and can delete. Flock-style plate readers are a different animal entirely: they're networked, they log every passing vehicle's plate, time, and location, and that data often flows into shared databases accessible well beyond the property it's mounted on. Conflating the two lets surveillance companies and some local officials hide the scale of ALPR networks behind the reassuring language of "just a security camera."
If you want to see how far that network actually reaches in your area, check our camera map, and if you're ready to push back on it, our take-action page has next steps.
