Huntsville police explain Flock cameras as residents raise concerns
The short version: FOX54 Huntsville covers residents pushing back on Flock cameras while police offer the standard reassurances — but reassurances aren't oversight.
Our Take
Credit to FOX54 News Huntsville for getting residents on camera asking the questions that matter: who sees this footage, how long is it kept, and who decided our streets needed a license plate reader on every corner. That police showed up to "explain" the cameras is progress, but explanations aren't the same as accountability. Every city that installs Flock hardware tends to follow the same script — a few community meetings, some talk about solving car break-ins, and no binding policy that survives the next council turnover or the next data-sharing request from an out-of-state agency.
