TEXAS CITY POINTS FLOCK CAMERA DIRECTLY AT CHILDREN’S WATER PARK, VIDEO SHOWS

Devin · 2 months ago

The short version: A Texas city's Flock camera reportedly aimed at a kids' water park shows how little oversight governs where these lenses point.

Our Take

Credit to YouTuber Devin for catching this one on camera. A Flock Safety ALPR pointed at a children's water park isn't just a bad look — it's a symptom of a system with almost no guardrails on camera placement. These devices are sold as tools to catch stolen cars and wanted plates, yet nothing stops a local agency from aiming one at a splash pad full of kids instead of a traffic corridor.

That's the real story here: decisions about where surveillance infrastructure goes are made quietly, without public hearings, posted criteria, or meaningful community input. A camera angle that captures sunbathing families and kids in swimsuits raises obvious questions about what's actually being recorded, who can access that footage, and why a water park needed this kind of scrutiny in the first place. Nobody voted on this. Nobody got asked.

If this bothers you, it should — and it's exactly why we built our camera map, so you can see what's watching in your own town instead of finding out by accident. Check our take-action page for ways to push back at your next city council meeting.
