Our Take

This one isn't Flock, but it's worth watching precisely because it isn't. RICOMTECK's demo for its Armenia-market ALPR gate system shows the same core technology powering the surveillance debate here at home, just sold as boring "vehicle access control" for parking lots and gated communities. Offline capability, CNN deep learning, cashless/cardless entry — it's the same plate-reading engine, just marketed as convenience instead of crime-fighting.

That framing matters. Once ALPR hardware gets normalized as a checkout-line convenience — swipe your face, scan your plate, breeze through the gate — it becomes a lot easier for cities and police departments to argue that networked plate cameras on public roads are just as harmless. They're not. A camera on a private garage gate reading your plate is a very different thing from a statewide network like Flock's, which logs every passing vehicle, timestamps it, and shares that data across jurisdictions and often with federal agencies, with far less oversight than most drivers assume.
