New Flock cameras raise privacy questions in Huntsville
The short version: FOX54's Huntsville report shows local news catching up to what residents already suspect: Flock cameras are spreading fast with little public debate.
Our Take
FOX54 News Huntsville deserves credit for actually asking the question most local outlets skip: what happens to the data these cameras collect, and who decided Huntsville needed this network in the first place? That's the right instinct, even if, as usual, the answers from officials are long on reassurance and short on specifics.
This is the pattern we see city after city. A police department rolls out Flock Safety hardware under the banner of fighting car theft or finding missing persons, local coverage treats it as a neutral tech upgrade, and only later do residents learn their daily movements are being logged, stored, and potentially shared with agencies far outside city limits. Huntsville isn't unique here, it's just the latest stop on a map that keeps filling in.
