People are getting pulled over because of FLOCK AI?! #Bikomeye #FlockSafety #PoliceTechnology
The short version: A new video calls out the 'it's just AI' excuse for Flock-driven traffic stops, reminding us humans built and deployed these systems — and humans answer for the consequences.
Our Take
The creator behind this video, She Don't Work Like That No More, is pushing back on a lazy defense we hear constantly: that an ALPR flagged someone's plate, a cop acted on it, and therefore nobody's really responsible because 'it's just the algorithm.' That framing is doing a lot of work to launder accountability. Flock's AI doesn't write its own rules, doesn't choose which jurisdictions to sell to, and doesn't decide what counts as a 'hit.' People do that — engineers, police departments, and policymakers who sign off on these networks with little public debate.
When a driver gets pulled over because a camera system flagged their plate, the stakes aren't abstract. Misreads, stale hotlists, and database errors turn into guns-drawn stops over nothing. 'The AI did it' shouldn't be a get-out-of-liability-free card for the agencies running these systems or the company selling them. If a human designed the matching logic, a human decided how aggressively to flag ambiguous reads, and a human chose not to build in enough friction before officers escalate, then humans share the blame when things go sideways.
This is exactly why we track where these cameras are and push for real oversight instead of rubber-stamped expansion. Check our camera map to see what's watching your streets, and if you want to push back on unchecked ALPR deployment in your town, our take-action page is the place to start.
