TommyG hilariously exposed Flock Safety #funny #tommyg
The short version: A comedy bit from creator TommyG (via Julian Central) roasts Flock Safety, and even as a joke it lands because the surveillance is real.
Our Take
Credit where it's due: TommyG and the Julian Central channel are doing with humor what a lot of policy briefs fail to do — making people actually pay attention to Flock Safety. Comedy is a sneaky-effective delivery system for surveillance criticism. People roll their eyes at a think tank report, but they'll watch a funny clip twice and then ask "wait, is that actually happening in my town?" Yes. It is.
That question — is it happening in my town — is the whole ballgame. Flock's ALPR cameras aren't some abstract Big Brother hypothetical; they're bolted to poles on ordinary streets, logging plates, times, and locations for everyone who drives by, regardless of suspicion. The joke format doesn't change the underlying facts: this is a privately built, locally deployed network of vehicle tracking cameras with little public oversight and plenty of mission creep potential. Laughing at it is fine. Forgetting that it's real is not.
If this clip got you curious, skip the punchline and go look at the receipts. Check our camera map to see what's actually been documented near you, and if you want to push back on a deployment in your community, our take-action page has the tools to start.
