More Fireballs, Google Mosquitos, AI "god", and Flock Cameras

Sling and Stone LIVE · 4 months ago

The short version: A creepy-internet-ephemera roundup from Sling and Stone LIVE tosses Flock ALPR cameras in with fireballs and 'AI god' clips, flattening a real policy fight into internet mystery content.

Our Take

Credit to Sling and Stone LIVE for putting Flock cameras on the same marquee as fireballs, "Google mosquitoes," and AI mysticism. It's a reminder that automated license plate readers have become strange enough, visually and conceptually, to slot right into the internet's catalog of unexplained oddities. That's not nothing — plenty of people first learn these cameras exist because a creator films one glowing on a pole and asks "what is that thing?"

But there's a risk in the mashup framing. Fireballs and AI doom content are speculative by nature. Flock Safety's network isn't a mystery — it's a documented, expanding system of networked cameras logging plates, timestamps, and vehicle details, often with little public oversight and real retention and access questions attached. Filing it under "creepy and strange" alongside internet folklore can make a concrete accountability issue feel like just another spooky rabbit hole instead of a policy fight residents can actually weigh in on.

We'd rather people walk away curious about what's actually bolted to the pole in their own neighborhood. Check our camera map to see what's nearby, and if you want to push back on deployments near you, our take-action page has the tools to do it.
