Flock Raises $275M to Supercharge Innovation and Help Communities Thrive
The short version: Flock's own promo video dresses up a $275M venture capital infusion as a feel-good origin story while quietly confirming its push into drones, AI, and nationwide expansion.
Our Take
This is Flock talking to itself — a slick origin-story reel timed to a $275 million raise from a16z, Greenoaks, and Bedrock Capital. Notice what's buried in the chapter list between the founder's garage-startup nostalgia: drones, "Nova," and a mission that's expanding "beyond eliminating crime." That's corporate-speak for more cameras, more data products, and more infrastructure sold to police departments with little public debate about where the money and the footage actually go.
Venture capital doesn't fund feel-good nonprofits — it funds growth, and growth for Flock means more ALPR nodes feeding a private company's database, more drone programs blurring the line between traffic enforcement and aerial surveillance, and more local governments locked into subscription contracts they rarely scrutinize. The video sells safety; the funding round sells market share. Both can be true, and only one of them gets a line item in a city council budget meeting.
Flock gets to control the narrative in its own video. We'd rather show you the receipts: check our camera map to see how fast this network is actually spreading near you, and if you want to push back on a new installation in your town, our take-action page has the tools to start.
