Sam Hyde built his channel on absurdist, needle-the-audience comedy, so when he titles something "An Educational Video About Flock Cameras," don't expect a policy briefing. Expect a bit. But bits land because there's something true underneath them, and the underlying truth here is that Flock's ALPR network has quietly become one of the largest privately-run surveillance systems in the country, hoovering up plate scans on ordinary people who've never been charged with anything.

That's the joke that isn't really a joke: a camera bolted to a pole in a subdivision entrance or gas station lot can now log where you drove, when, and how often, and hand that history to police departments, HOAs, and federal agencies with little public oversight. Whether Hyde's take is deadpan mockery of the tech, the companies selling it, or the towns that bought in without asking questions, the fact that a comedian is riffing on Flock at all says the cameras have gotten visible enough to become a punchline — which is progress of a sort.
