flock camera SPECS...
The short version: A creator called dukktekk digs into the hardware specs behind Flock's ALPR cameras, and even a surface-level teardown underscores how little the public actually knows about this gear.
Our Take
Credit to dukktekk for pulling back the curtain, even slightly, on the hardware powering Flock Safety's camera network. Most of us only ever see these units bolted to a pole at the edge of a neighborhood or a gas station parking lot. We rarely get a look at what's actually inside — the sensors, the connectivity, the processing — that turns a plate reader into a rolling log of everyone's movements.
Spec breakdowns like this matter because Flock and similar vendors aren't exactly forthcoming about the technical guts of their systems. Local governments sign contracts, cameras go up, and residents are left to guess at capability, data retention, and what's being transmitted where. Independent creators poking at the actual equipment is one of the few ways the public gets any real insight into what's watching them.
If you want to see how many of these cameras are already deployed near you, check our camera map. And if this kind of video makes you uneasy about unregulated ALPR expansion in your own town, our take-action page has concrete steps for pushing back at the local level.
