'PRIVACY OR SAFETY': Flock Safety CEO says people are prioritizing the 'wrong thing' #shorts

Fox News · 1 month ago

The short version: Flock's CEO dismisses privacy concerns as a 'wrong priority,' but that framing ignores how mass ALPR surveillance erodes rights without proving it stops crime.

Our Take

When the man selling the cameras tells you that you're worried about the wrong thing, maybe ask who benefits from you not worrying. Garrett Langley's appearance on Fox News frames privacy and safety as a binary choice, but that's a sales pitch, not a policy debate. Nobody is arguing against solving crimes — the question is whether a nationwide network of plate readers logging every car's movements, shared across thousands of agencies with little oversight, is the only way to do it.

That 'privacy vs. safety' framing conveniently skips the part where Flock's own data has leaked, been misused by officers for personal reasons, and been queried by agencies chasing immigration cases or out-of-state abortion investigations. Safety doesn't require a permanent, searchable record of where you drove last Tuesday. That's not public safety infrastructure — it's a surveillance business model wrapped in a hero narrative.

Credit to Fox News for giving Langley a platform, but we'd rather see him answer harder questions about retention policies, audit logs, and who actually has access to all this data.
