FlockOS® | Integrated Public Safety Platform

Flock · 3 years ago

The short version: Flock's own promo reel for FlockOS sells 'integrated public safety' — corporate-speak for stitching license plate readers into a sprawling, largely unaccountable surveillance network.

Our Take

This one's straight from Flock Safety's own marketing department, so take the 'solves more crime' pitch with a heavy grain of salt. FlockOS is the company's push to bundle license plate readers, gunshot detection, drones, and video feeds into one searchable dashboard for police — the kind of "integration" that sounds efficient in a sales deck but means your daily movements are increasingly stitched into a single corporate-run surveillance graph.

Notice what's absent from the pitch: independent audits, retention limits, or any real discussion of how often this data leaks to agencies far outside the community that installed the cameras. Flock has already been caught letting local ALPR data flow to ICE and out-of-state investigators chasing abortion and immigration cases — the platform's whole value proposition is more sharing, more networking, more reach, which is exactly the problem.

A promotional video is not oversight. If you want to see how far this network already extends in your area, check our camera map, and if you'd rather not live under a private company's 'integrated public safety platform,' visit our take-action page for ways to push back at the local level.
