Cameras are everywhere. #flockcameras #security

Karen & Sean · 5 days ago

The short version: A security-industry creator shrugs that 'cameras are everywhere,' but that framing blurs the line between a shop's door cam and a networked Flock system logging your every drive.

Our Take

Karen & Sean make a fair point from where they sit: cameras have blanketed American life for decades, and most people never clocked it until someone said it out loud. That's true, and worth hearing from a 20-year security veteran. But 'cameras are everywhere' is doing a lot of work to normalize something categorically different from the dumb lens over a gas station register.

A static camera watching a cash drawer isn't the same animal as a Flock Safety ALPR node feeding your plate, timestamp, and location into a searchable, shareable database that police departments across state lines can query without a warrant. The old cameras recorded a place. These new networks track a person's movements over time. That distinction is the whole ballgame, and it's the one glossed over when the message is just 'get used to it.'

If you want to see how far this has actually spread in your own town, check our camera map, and if you'd rather not just shrug, our take-action page has concrete steps for pushing back at the local level.
