Credit to The Excelsior Citizen for getting a camera into an actual Flock console and showing viewers what officers see when they run a plate search. That kind of access is rare, and demystifying the interface is useful — most residents have no idea their daily commute is logged, timestamped, and searchable by any department with a login and a network-sharing agreement.

But a department-guided tour is still a department-guided tour. It's built to show the system working as intended, not to surface the edge cases that actually worry civil liberties advocates: how long footage is retained, who else can query it through Flock's national network, what happens when a search has no case number attached, or how officers explain a 'be on the lookout' hit that turns out to be a false read on an innocent driver. Those are the questions that don't come up when the person walking you through the software is the same person whose budget depends on the contract renewing.
