License Plate Readers Caught Him Red-Handed!⚖️ #shortvideo

The American Courtroom · 1 month ago

The short version: A courtroom-drama clip from The American Courtroom frames ALPRs as the hero that nailed a suspect, skipping the bigger story of mass, warrantless tracking of everyone else.

Our Take

The American Courtroom's clip is built for one reaction: the gavel-banging satisfaction of watching tech "catch the bad guy." That's the entire pitch of Flock Safety and every ALPR vendor pitching city councils — point to the rare slam-dunk case and let everyone assume the other 99.9% of scans, the ones logging your commute, your church parking lot, your ex's driveway, are just harmless background noise.

They're not. Every plate read, innocent or not, gets stored, shared across agencies, and sometimes handed to federal immigration or anti-abortion investigators with zero warrant and zero public debate. A single courtroom win makes good TV; it says nothing about retention policies, audit logs, or who else is quietly pulling your travel history. Credit to the channel for the drama, but drama isn't data.
