The short version: A motovlogger spots Flock ALPR cameras on his ride and points viewers to DeFlock.org, showing how everyday riders are becoming citizen watchdogs.

Our Take

Credit to dustin6r for doing exactly what more riders and drivers should be doing: noticing the cameras bolted to poles along routes they ride every day and asking questions. A motovlog is a pretty unglamorous way to blow the whistle on mass surveillance, but that's kind of the point — these Flock Safety ALPR units aren't hidden in some secret government facility, they're hanging in plain sight on public roads, and most people never look up.

What makes this kind of clip valuable isn't production value, it's documentation. Every rider, cyclist, or dashcam user who geotags a camera and shares it helps build a public record that police departments and Flock Safety would rather you not have. That's the entire premise behind our own camera map — crowdsourced, independent verification of where these networks actually are, since the companies and agencies running them rarely volunteer that information.

If you ride, drive, or walk past one of these cameras, you don't need a GoPro rig to contribute — just a location and a photo. Check our take-action page for how to report a sighting or push back on your local council. Grassroots spotting like this is how the map grows, and the map is how communities finally see the surveillance dragnet they're living inside.
