Flock LPR Helps Catch Robbery Suspect in Kentucky

Flock · 7 months ago

The short version: Flock's own promotional clip touts a quick Kentucky arrest, but a single success story tells us nothing about the system's broader costs to privacy.

Our Take

This clip comes straight from Flock Safety's corporate channel, which means it's marketing, not journalism. One clean arrest with no messy details is exactly the kind of story a surveillance vendor wants circulating — it's designed to make the case for more cameras, more data-sharing, and less scrutiny, one county at a time.

What the video doesn't mention: how many other plates got scanned and logged in that "real-time" sweep, who else had their movements tracked, how long that data sits in Flock's system, and which other agencies can query it later for unrelated reasons. A single feel-good anecdote doesn't tell you about the thousands of innocent drivers swept up alongside the one suspect, or whether Calvert City and McCracken County have any real audit trail or retention limits in place.

If Flock cameras are already watching roads near you, check our camera map to see where, and visit take action to push your local officials for transparency and accountability before mass tracking becomes the default.
