Permanent GPS Trackers

Wyo Support · 3 months ago

The short version: A clip show from Wyo Support frames Flock's ALPR network as something close to a permanent GPS tracker on every driver, and that framing is accurate.

Our Take

Wyo Support's clip-show take on Flock cuts to the chase: once enough cameras are bolted onto enough intersections, you don't need a warrant to track someone's movements, you just need a license plate. That's the uncomfortable truth hiding behind the word "camera." A single Flock unit snaps a photo. Thousands of them networked together, logging time, date, and location every time you drive past, start to function like a GPS tracker that was never attached to your car but might as well have been.

We appreciate creators like this one putting plain language on what's otherwise buried in city council agendas and vendor contracts. The podcast format works because it treats this as the civil liberties story it is, not a tech-bro product demo. Most people still don't know how many of these poles exist in their own town, who's allowed to query the data, or how long it sits in a database waiting to be subpoenaed, sold, or leaked.

If this clip got your attention, go see it for yourself on our camera map and check whether your daily commute is already being logged. Then head to take-action for scripts and steps to push back at your next city council meeting.
